They allow administrators to control multiple computers from up to two KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) consoles. All switches are capable of expansion to provide control of up to hundreds or thousands of computers for a flexible and economical solution to server room administration. Convenient features that help network administrators easily manage their server rooms include three selection methods (manual, OSD, and hotkey) to obtain instant access to any computer on the installation and a power ful Auto Scan function that permits scan interval setting and automatic scanning and monitoring of the activities of all computers running on the installation on a one-at-a-time basis.

The Cat 5 High-Density KVM Switches feature RJ-45 connectors and Cat 5e/6 cable to link to the computers. Combined with Signal Compensation, 1280 x 1024 signals can travel up to 40 m (130 ft) – eliminating the need for KVM extenders.

Utilizing KVM Adapter Cables for the final linkup, ATEN Cat 5 High-Density KVM Switches permit any combination of PCs, Macs, Sun computers, and serial devices to coexist on the installation.
